Start with the money, because the money sets your calendar. You need one of three routes, and the deposit has to sit in the bank before you file. Permission is for no more than 1 year at a time.

Health insurance (O-A holders only)

Only holders of Non-Immigrant O-A visas must have health insurance for the retirement extension. The order sets cover for medical costs and COVID-19 of at least USD 100,000 or THB 3,000,000 for the whole stay. Some embassy pages still show the old THB 40,000 outpatient and THB 400,000 inpatient figures; they no longer apply. An O-A holder may stay 1 year.

Which policy counts

A Thai policy must come with proof of insurance in the form the insurance regulator approves, and you can check it on longstay.tgia.org.

A foreign policy or foreign government welfare needs certification from your embassy in Thailand or a notarised signature certificate from your foreign ministry. If an insurer refuses you cover, in full or in part, you need at least THB 3,000,000 in a Thai bank for at least 2 months before filing.

Fee and filing

The fee is THB 1,900 for an extension of stay, not refunded. File at the Phuket Immigration Office, 482 Phuket Rd., Talad Yai, Mueang, Phuket 83000. The phone is 0 7622 1905 and the hotline is 1178.

It is closed on Saturday, Sunday and national public holidays, and on 13 October 2026 and 23 October 2026. Hours and the other two service points are in the Phuket Immigration Office guide.

Queue

The online booking the office describes is for business extensions only. If you cannot book the day you want, take a walk-in queue card and file as normal.

While the officer decides

The immigration officer decides the application. If it is refused, the overstay fines guide covers what happens once the stay date passes.

Find the last extension stamp in your passport, then enter the 8-digit case number on the status page.

After approval

The 90-day report

A foreigner permitted to stay temporarily notifies the address every ninety days. Report from 15 days before until 7 days after the due date.

A late report is in person with a THB 2,000 fine. O-A holders also notify every ninety days. Full steps: Ninety-day report in Phuket.

Re-entry permits

Leaving Thailand without a re-entry permit cancels the permitted stay. A single permit costs THB 1,000. A multiple permit costs THB 3,800. Apply on form TM.8 with one 4x6 cm photo.

Retirement Visa Non-O without the 800k in the bank Anyone know a good visa agent in Phuket who can sort this out for me?

    1. Lashay_Sombra

      > something that avoids me jumping in and out on waivers every two months Be lucky to get much more than 6 months on waivers Main long term options, ED or elite (as you cannot put 800k in back latter is probably not for you) Don't know of any such agents in Phuket, Pattaya is where most seem based
