Police timing at Chalong Roundabout Do police have a certain time interval when they are at the Chalong roundabout? Currently I am torn between two accomodations. With one of them I need to pass through Chalong roundabout every day on a motorbike. I have a european driver’s liscence for mopeds, I will wear a helmet, but I know they still pull over foreigners all the time and give them fines. Also, what fines can I expect? Thanks.

Do you have an international driving permit because you’ll need one. There are no set times. They’re not usually there too early in the morning and around 4-5pm they sometimes stop checking the bikes to do traffic duty. The fine really ranges but as a rule of thumb it’s 500-1000 THB

    2. Lashay_Sombra

They give fines because people driving illegally, if people not driving illegally no fines Fine will be 500 to 1000 and any insurance you might have will be invalidated in case of accident  I

Moped isn’t a motorbike license you won’t be insured. All bikes here are classed as a motorbike.

Well it depends which direction you are going. I lived in chalong 1 month, you can skip it if you are heading on the road towards kata

Moved to Chalong 2008 and was warned about the daily checkpoints. 15 years later and it's still the same, I don't think the fine rate has even increased? Worked on the Rawai side of the roundabout, went through daily guess they just got used to me either on motorbike or cycle I was never stopped. Maybe i didn't look 'touristy' enough. Would see the queues of farangs waiting to pay their fine, minus helmets of course. Such is life.
