What the 1669 line covers

The 1669 line is part of a countrywide network and is free of charge. The line serves critical emergency patients outside medical facilities, and an emergency inside a facility goes through that facility’s own system.

Officers ask detailed history questions to assess the patient. A team cannot always be sent because the case may not be a real emergency, and officers may then advise other services.

For a critical emergency patient the team takes the patient to the nearest hospital. Most private hospitals run their own ambulances for emergencies within reasonable distances, usually for a fee.

What to say on the phone

Stay calm and run through the same list each time. The order below follows the national emergency medicine advice.

  1. Say what happened and what kind of patients or injured people there are.
  2. State the place and the route to the scene clearly.
  3. Give sex, age range, symptoms and the number of patients or injured.
  4. Say how conscious the patient is.
  5. Mention risks that could recur, such as being in the middle of the road or a vehicle with gas fuel.
  6. Give your name and a phone number that can be reached.
  7. Give first aid as the officer advises, then wait for the rescue team to take the patient to hospital.

Paying and insurance in an emergency

Showing your passport is mandatory at both public and private hospitals to get treatment. All hospitals require a guarantee of payment before treating patients.

In August 2026 the NIEMS secretary-general ordered that insurance rights, facility registration or ability to pay must not be used as grounds to refuse an emergency patient timely emergency operations.

Contact your insurance or medical assistance company quickly if you are referred to a medical facility for treatment. See Phuket SIM cards to keep a working number on you.
