Thailand DTV Visa in Phuket: Funds, Fee, Extension
A first Destination Thailand Visa needs a qualifying purpose such as remote work and financial evidence of at least THB 500,000. You apply online on the Thai e-Visa platform. The visa lasts 5 years, with up to 180 days per entry and one 180-day extension at the Immigration Bureau, in Phuket the Phuket Immigration Office.
On this page
A remote worker or a Muay Thai student in Phuket who wants six months at a time usually asks one question: does the DTV fit? It can: you need a qualifying purpose, THB 500,000 in proof and, since 31 August 2026, proof of permanent residence.
You apply online, and your embassy sets the fee, so you pay the amount on its page, not the THB 10,000 base figure.
Who qualifies and what you need

The DTV is for three groups of people.
- Remote workers: foreign talent, freelancers and digital nomads who travel and work remotely in Thailand.
- Activity participants: people joining Muay Thai courses, cooking classes, sport training, medical treatment, seminars or music festivals.
- Family: a spouse and children under 20 of a DTV holder.
For a first application, the checklist is short.
- Funds: financial evidence of at least THB 500,000, for example bank statements or a sponsorship letter.
- Residence: proof of permanent residence, as your embassy defines it.
- Police record: a criminal record clearance certificate.
- Purpose: documents for your group, listed in the next section.
- Where: online on the Thai e-Visa platform at thaievisa.go.th.
- Validity: 5 years, multiple entry.
Funds and purpose documents

Funds proof
The base figure is THB 500,000. Bank statements, payslips and a sponsorship letter are accepted examples. Embassies add their own detail.
- London: financial evidence of no less than GBP 12,000, given as THB 500,000.
- Washington D.C.: statements for the last three months, with an ending balance of no less than THB 500,000 for each month.
Purpose documents
- Remote work (Washington D.C. list): an employment contract or employment certificate in your country, or a professional portfolio showing nomad, remote worker, foreign talent or freelancer status.
- Thai soft power: proof of confirmation to attend the activity, or a letter from a hospital or medical centre.
- Spouse: proof of the relationship to the DTV holder, for example a marriage certificate.
- Police record: Washington D.C. asks for a certificate of criminal record clearance, for example an FBI certificate issued within 3 months.
Washington D.C. warns that missing, screenshot or unclear files bring a request for more documents and delay the visa.
The 31 August 2026 change
Applications submitted from 00.00 hrs. on 31 August 2026 follow revised rules. Proof of permanent residence replaced the document showing your current location. A criminal record clearance certificate was added. Washington D.C. gives a valid U.S. visa or a permanent resident card as examples of residence proof.
London takes residence in the UK, Ireland or the British Overseas Territories. Washington D.C. asks non-citizens for a permanent resident card or a U.S. visa valid at least 6 months. Other embassies publish their own list.
How to apply and what it costs
- Choose your embassy or consulate on the Thai e-Visa platform at thaievisa.go.th and apply online.
- Upload the documents your embassy lists. Missing or unclear files delay the visa.
- Pay the fee. It is non-refundable.
- Enter Thailand within the visa’s 5-year validity.
Nationals of certain countries must apply in their home or residence country, or at a designated embassy.
DTV fee by embassy
Each post charges its own amount in local currency. The baseline is THB 10,000.
| Embassy | Fee |

| Helsinki | 350 euros |
| London | GBP 300 |

These are application fees paid abroad before travel. A holder already in Phuket pays the extension fee instead, covered next.
Extending the DTV at Phuket Immigration
The DTV lets you stay up to 180 days per entry. One extension of 180 days can follow, and then you must leave. It is a one-time extension for a period not exceeding 180 days per entry.
The Immigration Bureau handles it, and Washington D.C. tells holders to contact the Bureau directly once in Thailand. In Phuket province that is the Phuket Immigration Office at 482 Phuket Rd., Talad Yai, Mueang, Phuket 83000. The phone is 0 7622 1905.

Hours and closures
Counters open from 8.30 a.m. and the afternoon session runs to 4.30 p.m. The office is closed Saturday and Sunday. It is also closed on 13 October 2026 and 23 October 2026.
Fee, queue and other points

The Immigration Bureau fee list shows THB 1,900 for an extension of visa. Confirm at the counter that the same fee applies to a DTV.
Phuket Immigration’s online queue page is titled “Queue Online for Business Visa”. Do not assume it books a DTV extension. The homepage menu also lists a separate Queue Online item.
A Patong point (phone 0 7634 0477) and a Blue Tree point in Thalang also exist. Ask which services each handles before you go.
Rules while you stay
A foreigner permitted to stay temporarily must notify an immigration officer of their address every ninety days. Section 37(5) of the Immigration Act sets this for stays longer than ninety days. This is the rule today.
- Timing: you can notify 15 days before or 7 days after the appointment date.
- Online: the Phuket Immigration homepage lists a 90 Days Report item in its E-Service menu.
- Late: you must notify in person and pay a fine of 2,000 baht.
Leaving Thailand without a re-entry permit cancels the permitted stay. A single re-entry permit costs THB 1,000 and a multiple one THB 3,800. You apply on form TM.8 with one 4x6 cm photo.
The overstay fine is THB 500 per day, capped at THB 20,000. See the overstay fines guide for the ban tiers.
Since 1 May 2025, non-Thai nationals entering by air, land or sea complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card online. You submit it for every entry.
Long stays raise a tax question too. The tax residency guide covers when your days in Thailand create a tax bill.

Personal Liability Insurance? for people who rent a scooter long-term Do you have personal liability insurance? if so, which one do you recommend? I'll be renting a scooter (can't buy because DTV visa). I know that there is a mandatory one attached to the bike itself, but is it good enough? I'm mostly concerned about the possibilities of myself causing injuries or damages to others or the bike itself

The mandatory Por Ror Bor insurance provides limited coverage for medical expenses plus benefits for death/disability/dismemberment. It does not provide any coverage for legal liability arising out of damage to other parties' property. Thai insurers do not offer non-motor policies that would cover liability arising from the ownership or use of motor vehicles. The only viable way to get proper liability coverage is for the owner to insure the vehicle under a voluntary motor policy. Same with coverage for damage to the motorbike itself. Another issue to be aware of is that in order for a rental motorbike to be correctly insured under a voluntary motor policy, the policy has to specify that the motorbike is insured for commercial use. Then there is the issue of having a valid license. If you are here short-term, then you will need your home country license with a motorcycle endorsement plus an international driving permit. If over 90 days in Thailand, you'll need a Thai license. Otherwise the insurer could deny a claim due to lack of valid license.
