Take the ferry from Rassada Pier, about 2 hours to Tonsai Pier, or join a speedboat day tour of 8 to 9 hours. Either way, foreign adults pay a THB 400 park fee and children THB 200. Plan your swims elsewhere, as swimming is not allowed at Maya Bay.

You have two ways to reach the Phi Phi Islands from Phuket: a scheduled ferry from Rassada Pier or a speedboat day tour. A standard-class ferry ticket costs an adult THB 700 one way, while one speedboat tour comes to THB 3,300 per adult with the park fee included. Whichever you choose, the park fee for a foreign adult is THB 400.

Phi Phi Islands day trip: ferry, tour and park fee

Ferry from Rassada Pier

Take the ferry when you want a fixed timetable: boats run daily from Rassada Pier to Tonsai Pier on Phi Phi Don. The crossing takes about 2 hours. Departure times and standard-class fares for adults and children are in the tables below.

Departure from Rassada Pier Arrival at Tonsai Pier
08:30 10:30
13:45 15:45
Standard class Adult Child
One way THB 700 THB 600
Round trip THB 1,200 THB 1,000

Check the times again shortly before you travel, since schedules and operating periods can change without notice. At Tonsai Pier, the counters open about 30 minutes before each departure.

Day tours

For a guided day by ferry, one tour leaves Rassada Pier at 08:30 and brings you back at 16:45. Lunch is a buffet, snorkel gear is free and there is a 15-minute kayak. Prices start from THB 3,500 per adult and THB 2,500 per child, and the park fee comes on top.

A speedboat day runs 8 to 9 hours, with check-in at Royal Phuket Marina by 09:00. You are picked up from your hotel in Phuket province, and the price covers snorkel gear, lunch on Phi Phi Don and the park fee. One listing comes to THB 3,300 per adult and THB 2,700 per child aged 3 to 10.

Park fee

Foreign visitors pay a park fee on Phi Phi Don, Phi Phi Le and Bamboo Island: THB 400 per adult and THB 200 per child. Foreign here simply means anyone without Thai nationality. A child is aged 3 to 14, or no taller than 140 centimetres, and children under 3 pay nothing.

Have the money ready when your tour leaves the fee out, as you then pay park officials during the trip. On the ferry tour described above, add THB 20 per person to enter Tonsai.

What to see on the Phi Phi Islands

Maya Bay

Visits to Maya Bay are managed by the hour: up to 375 visitors per hour from 07:00 to 18:00, spread over 11 slots a day. The bay was closed from 1 June 2018 and reopened on 1 January 2022. Your boat moors at a temporary floating pier in Loh Sama Bay.

Leave the swim for another stop, because swimming is not allowed here, to protect visitors and the coral. In October 2025, rangers fined a visitor who swam in the no-swim zone.

Other stops on a speedboat day

Expect a full loop on a standard speedboat tour, with stops at Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, Viking Cave and Monkey Beach. Bamboo Island comes first, and that is where you swim and snorkel. At Monkey Beach, keep any food off the sand.

Tonsai village

Tonsai Pier is where you step onto Phi Phi Don, as the island’s main gateway. Bags you would rather not carry around can wait in the luggage storage at the pier.

Who a Phi Phi day trip suits (and who should skip it)

The speedboat tour suits first-timers who want Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon and Viking Cave in one day, as it stops at all three. Snorkellers are covered either way, with gear included on both tours above. To stay on the island rather than return the same day, take a ferry from Rassada Pier at 08:30 or 13:45.

Skip the trip if a swim at Maya Bay is the goal, since swimming is not allowed there. Long days at sea are part of the speedboat deal, at 8 to 9 hours, so leave it out when you dislike them. The ferry day tour, on the other hand, is out between mid-April and mid-October, because it operates only from mid-October to mid-April.

How to get to the Phi Phi Islands

Start from Rassada Pier, Phuket’s main ferry terminal, which sits minutes from Phuket Town. For the ride there, you can book a taxi, private hire or van on Grab, which runs across Thailand, or a local taxi through Bolt in Phuket. On a speedboat tour the transfer is part of the deal, with hotel pickup and drop-off in Phuket province.

On the island side, ferries land at Tonsai Pier. The national park is marked on the map below.

When to go and how long

Plan the ferry day tour for the season it runs, from mid-October to mid-April. Its 08:30 departure gets you to Phi Phi by mid-morning. A speedboat trip takes the whole day, at 8 to 9 hours.

Maya Bay’s visiting slots run from 07:00 to 18:00. Before you book a trip that depends on a slot, read the Not confirmed box above.

Nearby and how to combine it

Keep Phang Nga Bay, the other classic boat day from Phuket, for a separate day, as a Phi Phi speedboat day alone takes 8 to 9 hours. You will find the details in our Phang Nga Bay day trip guide. Getting to the pier is covered in Grab vs Bolt in Phuket.

Before you go

Bring cash for the park fee when your tour leaves it out: THB 400 per foreign adult and THB 200 per child. On the ferry tour, set aside another THB 20 per person to enter Tonsai.

For the day itself, pack swimwear, a towel, water shoes, high-factor sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat and a camera. Leave Maya Bay out of your swim plans, and keep food off Monkey Beach.

Reach the Tonsai Pier counters about 30 minutes before your boat. Timetables can change without notice, so check them again close to the day.
