Grab vs Bolt in Phuket: Cars, Airport Pick-Up, Safety
Both apps show the price before you book: Grab for car services (excluding tolls and surcharges), Bolt as an upfront estimate once you enter the destination. Grab takes cash, card or GrabPay; Bolt takes a card in-app, with cash offered in some locations. Both pick up at Phuket airport.

Grab is the better first tap when you want a pick-up zone at the airport or a ride booked ahead. Bolt works when you need a specific vehicle size, such as the 8-seat Van, or want a women-only ride option. Both show the price before you book, so open both and take the lower one.

What each app offers
Grab is the leading taxi and ride hailing app in Thailand, covering private hire, taxi, van and motorcycle rides. The trip cost shows before you book its car services, excluding tolls and surcharges.
Bolt in Phuket has five categories:
- Economy: affordable rides in basic cars.
- Bolt: dependable rides in everyday, mid-size cars.
- Van: extra-large vehicles with seating for 8.
- XL: large vehicles with seating for up to 6.
- Taxi: local taxis at your service.
At Phuket airport
Before Grab was allowed to operate there, an airport taxi was the only choice. Grab has worked with authorities to set up pickup zones within airport premises, and the airport has designated pick-up zones. In-app directions lead you to the pickup point.

Bolt can pick you up from the airport, and its app shows the pickup points. The pickup spot can change, so open the app and request a ride to see the current one. The airport price is shown in the app before you ride. Schedule a Grab ahead for an early flight.

On Grab, press the emergency button during a ride to notify the authorities or your emergency contacts. Share your live GPS location with friends or loved ones.
Bolt has an Emergency Assist button that alerts an emergency response team and Bolt’s Safety team. Its women-only ride type matches women with female drivers.

Bolt vs Grab which is better ? see the price difference (Kamala Beach to Phuket Airport)

Bolt is fine as long you have time to kill, they tend to take longer to pick up but as stated they have a better pricing structure than bolt. If you are in a hurry bolt is your option as more cars are near by.

Bolt, except out of the airport because there’s no pick up zone until you walk right out of the airport, so grab is better from there

Depends. If you just look at it straight up side by side like this, Bolt seems like the better option. However, from my personal experience Grab's wait time is significantly shorter than Bolt. And Bolt driver's cancellation of the order is also higher. So if time is not an issue for you, Bolt is the way to go. Of course, your miles may vary with the app, this is all from my personal experience.

The shared buses are terrible. They bring everyone to their hotel so you got to sit and wait your turn. Bolt is far superior and is the same price or cheaper

Why are there so little “JustGrab” around Phuket Old Town? 🤔

Might be worth trying inDriver, that's apparently becoming more popular down there. Grab worked fine for me last time I was in Phuket though, and in Phuket Town specifically too.

Landed in bus terminal 1 and we saw the shuttle to bus terminal 2. Argued with the taxi drivers over them trying to charge us 300 baht for a 12 minute ride. They simply refused to allow us on the shuttle. I knocked on the drivers door and he just ignored me and drove off. The two other Thai passengers on the shuttle just looked down in shame when we were trying to ask why we couldn’t get on. The shuttle drove off with just the two passengers even though it would probably fit about 20. Ended up getting bolt for 200 baht. Fuck the mafia.

Grab is falling in popularity in Phuket for transport, to expensive (they have been jacking their prices back up since start of the year to equivalent of non app rates) Bolt and Indriver are main transport apps now. Mainly use bolt even though little bit more expensive than Indriver as there have been multiple reports of their drivers pulling shit to get more money

Bolt was also great for me a few months ago. Reasonable prices, much lower than Grab, sometimes by a half.
