When a hospital is the right call

For a medical emergency, call 1669. The service is part of a countrywide network and is free of charge. The 1669 line serves only critical emergency patients outside medical facilities.

Three hospitals run round-the-clock emergency care.

  • Bangkok Hospital Phuket: emergency physicians, nurses and specialised teams are ready 24/7. For immediate critical care, call 1719.
  • Bangkok Hospital Siriroj: 24-hour Emergency and Trauma Services.
  • Dibuk Hospital: open 24 hours.

Under the state’s UCEP policy, a critical emergency patient can be treated at the nearest hospital without charge until out of danger and safe to move. The limit is 72 hours.

Show your passport at any hospital. A self-funding patient is usually asked for a cash deposit at a private hospital before treatment begins. Government facilities normally cost less, but a tourist or short-term visa holder may be charged higher fees.

Compare the options on English-speaking hospitals in Phuket and Phuket hospital costs for foreigners. The full list of numbers is on Phuket emergency numbers.

A pharmacy for a simple prescription

Anti-inflammatory painkillers such as ibuprofen are dangerous drugs that a doctor or pharmacist must prescribe. The rules are on Pharmacies in Phuket. For rabies shots, see Rabies vaccine in Phuket.
